The University of Portsmouth was founded in 1960 as Portsmouth Polytechnic, becoming a university in 1992.

LGBT societies

University of Portsmouth Students Union Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual &Transgender Society was a member of the LGBT Consortium in 2012.[1]
