Euan Sutherland, born 1977, is a gay man who took a case to the European Commission of Human Rights on the basis that the age of consent for gay sex being set at 18 violated his right, as a man under 18, to respect for private life. The case of Sutherland v United Kingdom was considered by the Commission, who decided that the law constituted discrimination. The age of consent was subsequently reduced to 16 by the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000.
Euan Sutherland was awarded the Antony Grey Gay Times Honour (Government & Policy) in November 2017.
