London South Bank University was founded in 1892 as the Borough Polytechnic Institute and became South Bank Polytechnic in 1987. It became a university in its own right, as South Bank University in 1992. Its main campus is in Newington in the London Borough of Southwark, near the Elephant and Castle shopping centre.
LGBT societies
South Bank Poly Gaysoc was one of the early members of SAGO (later SLAGO).
Staff and alumni
Jeffrey Weeks was Executive Dean of Arts and Human Sciences at London South Bank University from 2003 to 2008.
