Val McDermid
Val McDermid (born 1955) is a Scottish crime writer.

McDermid's notable characters are a lesbian journalist, Lindsay Gordon; a private investigator, Kate Brannigan; and a psychologist, Tony Hill, who suffers from sexual dysfunction.

She lives in Manchester and Northumberland.

Her novel Beneath the Bleeding won the Stonewall Writer of the Year Award in 2007.

In 2013 she delivered the Oxford University LGBT Lecture.
