The East Riding ceremonial county: 1 East Riding of Yorkshire (Unitary); 2 Kingston upon Hull (Unitary)
The East Riding of Yorkshire is a county in northern England. It is the only one of the divisions of Yorkshire to retain the ancient title of "riding". After 1974 most of the historic East Riding formed part of the new county of Humberside, but this was abolished in 1996 and the East Riding resurrected but with somewhat different boundaries to the original East Riding. The East Riding is now a unitary authority; the ceremonial county of the same name also includes Kingston upon Hull. Towns within the unitary authority include Beverley (the county town), Bridlington and Goole.
