Northumberland is a county in the North East Region, and the most northerly county in England. It is a unitary authority - that is there is a county council but no district councils. Towns include Hexham, Morpeth, and Berwick-upon-Tweed. Prior to 1972 it also included Newcastle upon Tyne and other major centres which are now in Tyne and Wear.
Northumbria Police covers the counties of Northumberland and Tyne and Wear.
