Julia Grant (born 1954 died 2019) was a trans woman who was subject to a ground breaking five part BBC television documentary in 1980 (Inside Story: A Change of Sex). Born George Roberts; following a failed marriage and having had two children, she started the transition from male to female in 1978. After leaving her job working in catering for the NHS, for a while she worked at Scandals gay night club. The TV documentary showed her transition including meetings with a psychiatrist. Grant wrote two books about her experiences, George & Julia (1980) and Just Julia (1994).
