Washington Old Hall
Washington is a town in the Sunderland district of Tyne and Wear. It was designated a New Town in 1964, since when the population has expanded considerably. It is noted for Washington Old Hall, the family home of the ancestors of George Washington, first President of the United States.

LGBT history

In 2017 the North East LGBT+ Awards were held in Washington.[1]
