The cathedral
St Edmundsbury is a local government district in Suffolk, centred on The town of Bury St Edmunds. Both names commemorate St Edmund, King of East Anglia, killed here by the Danish invaders in 867. Bury St Edmunds Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. In 2011, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Forest Heath District Council agreed to have a shared chief executive and combined workforces.[1]

In 2011, the Rt Rev Richard Lewis, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, launched the Gay Christian Support Group to recognise the contributions that gay and lesbian Christians make.[2]

As of 2008, the Hide Bar in Bury St Edmunds is gay owned and gay friendly.[3]
