He is perhaps best known as the general editor of the Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud...the international authority. James was brother of the Bloomsbury writer [[Lytton Strachey]].

[[Rupert Brooke]], one of Britain's best loved war poets, wrote homoerotic letters to James Strachey, they are notably affectionate and reflect the life of the times he was living in.
