Local groups began to be set up in February 1970, in [[West Midlands CHE Group|West Midlands]], [[Oxford CHE Group|Oxford]], [[Bristol CHE Group|Bristol]], [[Manchester CHE Group|Manchester]] and [[Sheffield CHE Group|Sheffield]],<ref>''[[Amiable Warriors]]'' Volume One, page 561, reproduced at 
http://www.amiable-warriors.uk/timeline.shtml#1970.</ref> but the number grew to over 100 during the 1970s.

As of 2015, the only remaining CHE Group so named is the [[Marylebone and Paddington CHE Group]] but a number of others exist under different names.
