The Mayor of London (not to be confused with the Lord Mayor of London who is the cermonial head of the City of London) is an elected post, part of the Greater London Authority. The post was created, following a referendum, by the Greater London Authority Act 1999, and was the first directly elected mayor in the UK. The Mayor of London is elected for a four-year period.
