Alderney is one of the Channel Islands, part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It should not be confused with the suburb of Poole, Dorset, with the same name.

In 2006, a local hotel owner, Adrian Leopard, accused the island of persecuting him because he is gay.[1]
