David Hockney
David Hockney (born 1937) is an English painter, also known for hsi drawings, prints, stage stes and photocollages. he is consdered on of the most influential British artists of the twentieth century.
Life and works
He was born in Bradford and studied at Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. As a conscientious objector, Hockney worked as a medical orderly in hospitals as his National Service in 1957–59.[1]
In 1963 he visited New York, and met Andy Warhol. Later he lived for many years in California, producing a series of paintings of swimming pools.
David Hockney is openly gay.[2]
Awards and recognition
Hockney declined a knighthood in 1990 but accepted an Order of Merit in 2012.[3][4] He was awarded The Royal Photographic Society's Progress medal in 1988[5] and Centenary medal in 2003.[6]
He was ranked number 14 in the Pride Power List 2011
