Torquay Harbour

Torquay is a seaside town in the Torbay district of Devon.

LGBT history

Sir Richard Burton was born there in 1821.

The Cliff House Hotel was a very long-standing gay hotel. It closed in 2013.[1]

Torbay Express and South Devon Echo on Saturday 30 November 1996 reported on a suicide attempt by 35 year old Stephanie Foster. Stephanie praised the police officers who saved her and told the newspaper about the hell she was suffering between being a male and a female. Stephanie served as a man in the RAF. In Torquay she set up the transgender support group.

The Transfigurations trans support group is based in Torquay.
