Upton Park stadium

West Ham is an area within the London Borough of Newham. From 1889 onwards it was a county borough, geographically within Essex but independent of the Essex County Council. In 1965 it merged with East Ham to form the new London Borough.

The area gives its name to West Ham United Football Club, currently playing in the Premier League. It is due to move from Upton Park to the Millennium Stadium in 2016.

LGBT history

Thomas Hitzlsperger used to play for West Ham United. The club's LGBT supporters group is called Pride of Irons.[1]
