The London Borough of Hackney is an inner London Borough in East London. It was formed in 1965 by merging the metropolitan boroughs of Hackney, Shoreditch and Stoke Newington. The southern part of the borough (Shoreditch and Hoxton) is considered to be part of the East End.
LGBT history
The 2002 London Pride Festival was held in Hackney Marshes.
The pre-launch for LGBT History Month 2009 was held at Hackney Free and Parochial School.
The original Chariots sauna is in Shoreditch.
In 2011 homophobic stickers were posted in Shoreditch and Stoke Newington.[1]
Elly Barnes teaches at Stoke Newington School.
The Dalston Superstore is a well-known gay venue.
