Bishop's Waltham is a small town in Hampshire. It is home to the ruins of Bishop's Waltham Palace, a Scheduled Ancient Monument under English Heritage management ^[1]. The Bishop's Waltham County Club in Winchester Road was a popular gay venue in the late 1960s and early 1970s ^[2]. Drag artist Lee Sutton was a regular performer there and a recording of one of his performances is available on You Tube ^[3]. Dancer and female impersonator Gabriel D'Esty (1895-1968) lived the latter part of his life in the hamlet of Dean just outside the town.
