Bishops Waltham is a small town in Hampshire. It is home to the ruins of Bishop's Waltham Palace, a Scheduled Ancient Monument under English Heritage management [1]. The Bishops Waltham County Club in Winchester Road was a popular gay venue in the 1970s. Drag artist Lee Sutton was a regular performer there and a recording of one of his performances is available on You Tube [2]. Dancer and female impersonator Gabriel D'Esty (1895-1968) lived the latter part of his life in the hamlet of Dean just outside the town.
