Location of Dyfed

Dyfed is a former county in south-west Wales. It was formed in 1974. It corresponds roughly to the ancient Welsh kinghdom of Deheubarth.

The county council was abolished in 1996, and replaced by three unitary authories: Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire. Dyfed was retained for ceremonial purposes as a preserved county.

Dyfed and Powys comprise the Dyfed-Powys Police area.
