Bassetlaw is a local government district comprising the northern part of Nottinghamshire. It is mainly rural, with two towns, Worksop and Retford. There is no town or village called Bassetlaw: the district is named after the Bassetlaw wapentake (one of the historic divisions of Nottinghamshire).
LGBT history
Ian Campbell is a local councillor and was thought to be the UK's first openly gay mayor when he was elected as Town Mayor of Retford in 2010.
