Simon LeVay (born Oxford, 1943) is a British-American neuroscientist, now living in West Hollywood, California. He is openly gay.[1]

LeVay has degrees from Cambridge University, Göttingen, and Harvard. His research suggested a difference between gay and straight men in the structure of the brain, but he has warned that this should not be interpreted as proving a genetic basis for homosexuality.

His books include

  • The Sexual Brain (1993), on brain mechanisms involved in sexual behavior and feelings.
  • Queer Science (1996), a survey of sexual orientation research.
  • Albrick's Gold (1997), a science fiction novel, whose main character is partially based on Simon LeVay.
  • Gay, Straight, and the Reason Why: The Science of Sexual Orientation {2010).
