Blaenau Gwent is a local government area in South Wales. For ceremonial purposes it is within the preserved county of Gwent. The main towns are Abertillery, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar. It was previously a major coal-mining area.

LGBT history

Lee Lopez, a finalist in Mr Gay UK 2005, grew up in Swffryd; he felt so isolated that he tried to kill himself three times by taking overdoses.[1]
