Warrington is a town and unitary authority in Cheshire, on the banks of the River Mersey. It was originally in Lancashire. It was designated a new town in 1968, since when its population has more than doubled.
LGBT history
There was a gay club in Great Sankey in the early 19th century.
LGBT Warrington opened on 7 July 2011.[1]
The first Warrington Pride was held in September 2012.[2]
Culcheth Linear Park is built on former railway line (train) tracks. This park lies on a section of the former Wigan Junction Railways. In February 2023, the park became the focus of national news coverage, when it was the location of the murder of teenager Brianna Ghey. Brianna identified as transgender and had been living and dressing as a girl. The murder trial started in Manchester in November 2023.
