Middlesbrough is a town and unitary authority on the south bank of the River Tees. It was at one time a county borough; in 1968 it became part of the larger but short-lived county borough of Teesside. In 1974 it became a district within the county of Cleveland. In 1996 Cleveland was abolished, and Middlesbrough became a unitary authority within the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire.

Middlesbrough Voluntary Development Agency (MVDA) has an LGBT Inclusion project.[1]

MESMAC North East has a web page for the gay scene in Middlesbrough.[2]

Middlesbrough Pride 2012 was held in September in 2011[3] and 2012.[4] It replaced the previous SuperGay festival.
