Kirkcudbrightshire is a former county in Scotland. Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire comprise the traditional region of Galloway. In 1975 it became part of the Dumfries and Galloway region, which became the Dumfries and Galloway council area in 1996. The main towns are Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, and Gatehouse of Fleet.
