The Sexual Offences Act 1956 is an Act of the UK Parliament that consolidated the English criminal law relating to sexual offences between 1957 and 2004.
Key parts of the Act were as follows:
- Section 1(1) rape of a woman (replaced section 48 of the Offences against the Person Act 1861)
- Section 12 buggery
- Section 13 indecency between men
- Section 14(1) indecent assault on a woman (replaced section 52))
- Section 15(1) indecent assault on a man (replaced section 61)
- Section 16(1) assault with intent to commit buggery) replaced section 62)
It was mostly repealed (from 1 May 2004) by the Sexual Offences Act 2003 which replaced it.
