Gay Scene
From LGBT Archive
Gay Scene was a magazine published by Jean Harvey (born circa 1936). Seven editions are known to have been produced between August 1972 and February 1973. The magazine featured drag venues, artistes and commentary on gay issues. There are also extensive adverts for gay-friendly bars and clubs, guest houses and bed and breakfasts around the country. Drag star Jean Fredericks is regularly featured with adverts and coverage of her famous Porchester Drag Balls.
The Bishopsgate Institute have uploaded all known seven editions on line [1]. Jean Harvey was based at Lower Chase, Swanmore in Hampshire and operated a drag evening and gay discos at the Bishops Waltham Country Club [2]. Jean Harvey started Harvey's Club above Magnums at Southampton.
