An East End Gay Pride March was organised for 2 April 2011 in response to anti-gay stickers that had appeared around the East End. It was initially supported by local LGBT groups and gay activists. However before the march could take place, it was revealed that one of the organisers had links with the far-right organisation the English Defence League. This prompted the local organisations to withdraw support, and the march was cancelled.

An entirely separate event, East London Pride, was successfully held on 24 September 2011.
