It was built in 1898. The hanging sign in front of the pub is a well-known local landmark.<ref>[http://www.bromley.gov.uk/directory_record/280281/10_star_and_garter_inn Star and Garter page] on the Bromley Council website.</ref>

It was closed for a while in 2010, and then re-opened under new management. Following a further refurbishment, it is no longer listed as gay.
