The '''Ethical Standards in Public Life etc. (Scotland) Act 2000''' was an act of the Scottish Parliament which required Scottish ministers to establish a code of conduct for local councillors in Scotland.

Its most controversial provision was that it repealed [[Section 28]] as far as Scotland was concerned (it was not repealed for England and Wales until 2003). The repeal of Section 28 was fiercely opposed by [[Brian Souter]], founder of the Stagecoach Group. In repealing Section 28, the Act did require councils, in their dealings with children, to regard the value of a stable family relationship, and that any education about family life would be appropriate to the child's age and development.
