West Hartlepool and the docks in 1859
West Hartlepool is a district and former county borough in County Durham, now part of the borough of Hartlepool. It was founded in the 1840s and became a centre for shipping and shipbuilding. The borough became a county borough in 1902, but was absorbed into the County Borough of Hartlepool in 1967.
