Rahere depicted as a jester
Rahere (died 1144) was a clergyman, possibly a court jester to King Henry I. In 1123 he founded St Bartholomew's Hospital in Smithfield, central London, having had a vision of St Bartholomew while on a pilgrimage to Rome.

Cassell's Encyclopedia of queer myth, symbol and spirit describes Rahere as "alleged to have been homoerotically inclined"[1]
