Kate Kane as Batwoman on the cover of Detective Comics #854. Art by J H Williams III.
J H Williams and W Haden Blackman are former writers for the American comic book publishers DC Comics.

They had worked on the Batwoman series, which they described as "a dream project for both of us", but resigned in September 2013 after the publishers refused to allow principal characters Batwoman (aka Kate Kane) and her fiancée Maggie Sawyer to get married.[1]

"Unfortunately, in recent months, DC has asked us to alter or completely discard many long-standing storylines in ways that we feel compromise the character and the series. We were ... prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married. All of these editorial decisions came at the last minute, and always after a year or more of planning and plotting on our end."[2]

They were listed together under "Friends to LGBT people" in the Independent on Sunday's Pink List 2013. The citation said:

"They announced they were quitting their jobs, saying they had been asked to drop 'long-standing story lines' about Batwoman, including her planned same-sex marriage."[3]
