Ian Baynham was a gay man who was beaten to death in a homophobic attack in Trafalgar Square, London, on 25 September 2009. He was punched by Joel Alexander, 20, and then repeatedly stamped on by Ruby Thomas, 19, as he lay unconscious. Judge Richad Hawkins jailed jailed Thomas and Alexander for seven and six years respectively at the Old Bailey.[1]
The sentance on Thomas was increased from six years to seven under Section 246 of the Criminal Justicer Act 2003, covering "Increase in sentences for aggravation related to disability or sexual orientation".
