East Lothian is a council area in Scotland, adjacent to Edinburgh. The district was created in 1975 by combining the county of East Lothian (originally called Haddingtonshire) with Musselburgh and Inveresk, and was part of the Lothian region. The region was abolished in 1996, since when East Lothian has been effectively a unitary authority.
