The Derek Oyston Film Award is an award presented by the Campaign for Homosexual Equality for the film screened at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival which most reflects the aims and objectives of CHE. It is named in honour of Derek Oyston who bequeathed a large amount of money to CHE.
The intention of the Award is that it will encourage filmmakers to make films which document the experience of campaigning and the continuing struggles for LGBT rights in the UK and around the world.
The film was first presented in 2009. Winners to date have been as follows:
- 2009: Darling! the Pieter-Dirk Uys Story, directed by Julian Shaw.
- 2010: The Kuchus of Uganda, directed by Mathilda Piehl.
- 2011: Mutantes (Punk Porn Feminism), directed by Virginie Despentes.
- 2012: First prize: 365 Without 377, directed by Adele Tulli; second prize: This is What Love in Action Looks Like, directed by Morgan Jon Fox.
