Penge is an area within the London Borough of Bromley. It was previously a district within Kent, and had historically been a detached part of the ancient parish of Battersea. It was briefly (from 1889 to 1900) part of the County of London. The name is thought to be derived from the Celtic Penceat which means "edge of the wood".LGBT history
