Newtownabbey is a town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Since 1973 Newtownabbey with the surrounding area has been one of the 26 local government districts of Northern Ireland. It is to become part of the Antrim and Newtownabbey district in 2015.LGBT history
In 2014 a controversy arose when a local Christian-owned bakery, Ashers Baking Company, refused to supply a cake featuring the Sesame Street puppets, Bert and Ernie, with a slogan supporting same-sex marriage.[1]
