Bryher, real name Annie Winifred Ellerman, 1894–1983, was a bisexual writer, and long-term lover of Hilda Doolittle (H.D.). She was the daughter of Sir John Ellerman, an extremely rich shipowner and investor. She adopted the pen-name Bryher after the island of the same name in the Isles of Scilly.

She began her relationship with H.D. in 1918, and it continued until H.D's death. However she married twice, once to Kenneth Macpherson, who was H.D's lover at the same time.
