The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) was set up by the Equality Act 2006, replacing the Commission for Racial Equality, Disability Rights Commission, and Equal Opportunities Commission.
The EHRC's remit, widened by the Equality Act 2010 is to "promote and monitor human rights; and to protect, enforce and promote equality across the nine "protected" grounds - age, disability, gender, race, religion and belief, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership, sexual orientation and gender reassignment."
The Commission is headed by a board of Commissioners, including Angela Mason.
