Barrow-in-Furness is a town and local government borough in Cumbria. Prior to 1974 it was the main town in the Furness area of Lancashire.

In the late 19th century Barrow was the site of the world's largest steelworks. During the 20th century it became a major naval shipyard, specialising in the building of submarines.

Friends & Supporters of the Furness LGBT Community was formed in 2010. In 2018 Ethan Stables, who the BBC called a 'bisexual terrorist who hated himself', was on trial at Leeds Crown Court for preparing a terrorist attack in 2017 against a pub that was hosting a gay pride night in Barrow [1].
