Wigan is a town and metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester. It was formerly a mill town and coal mining district. Wigan Pier, on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, has become a heritage centre.The current borough includes other towns such as Leigh.

There was a Wigan CHE group in the 1970s.
The Wigan LGBQ young people's group meets weekly at Brook Wigan and Leight.[1]
