County Down is one of the six historic counties of Northern Ireland.The City of Belfast is considered to straddle County Down and County Antrim.
Most local government functions are now carried out by the following district councils:
- Ards
- Banbridge
- Castlereagh
- Down
- North Down
- Part of Craigavon
- Part of Lisburn
- Part of Newry and Mourne.
