The Labour Party is a British political party. It was founded in 1900, and replaced the Liberal Party as the official opposition in 1922.
There have been Labour governments as follows:
- 1924 (Ramsay MacDonald)
- 1929–31 (Ramsay MacDonald)
- 1945–51 (Clement Attlee)
- 1964–70 (Harold Wilson)
- 1974–79 (Harold Wilson; James Callaghan)
- 1997–2010 (Tony Blair; Gordon Brown)
Additionally Labour MPs participated to varying extents in "National" or coalition governments between 1931 and 1945.
LGBT History
Labour governments have been responsible for a number of Acts of Parliament affecting LGBT people, notably:
- Sexual Offences Act 1967
- Repeal in 2000 of Section 28
- Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000
- Sexual Offences Act 2003
- Civil Partnership Act 2004
- Gender Recognition Act 2004
- Equality Act 2006
