Mike Wolfe

Mike Wolfe was the first directly elected mayor of Stoke-on-Trent.

Wolfe left the Labour Party to stand as an independent in the mayoral race of October 2002 and narrowly beat George Stevenson, a local Labour MP. Wolfe is openly gay.

At the next election, in May 2005, Mike Wolfe was beaten into fourth place, the winner being another gay man, Mark Meredith. The post of elected mayor of Stoke-on-Trent has since been abolished.

He later became a columnist for a local paper, The Sentinel.

In 2008 he became chair of Brighter Futures.[1]
