The University of Portsmouth was founded in 1960 as Portsmouth Polytechnic, becoming a university in 1992.

LGBT societies

A University of Portsmouth Students Union Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Society was a member of the LGBT Consortium in 2012,^[1] and was listed as a member of ILGA.^[2].
