Location of South Lanarkshire in Scotland

South Lanarkshire is a council area in Scotland. It was created in 1996, from the Clydesdale, Hamilton and East Kilbride districts, and some outer areas of Glasgow, in the former Strathclyde region. Lanark was at one time the county town of Lanarkshire. Other towns include Rutherglen.
