The movement towards marriage equality in Scotland has been proceeding somewhat aheade of that in England (See Marriage equality for the general background and the situation in the rest of the UK).

The Scottish Government held a consultation exercise starting on the 2nd of September 2011,[1] six months ahead of that in England and Wales. The consultation closed on the 9th of December, and there were 50,000 responses.[2]

In Scotland the campaign for equal marriage is being organised by The Equality Network.[3]

A poll in June 2012 revealed that 64 per cent of Scots support equal marriage.[4]
