Tinky Winky is one of the "Teletubbies", characters in a BBC children's television series that ran between 1997 and 2001.
In 1999 the American conservative televangelist Jerry Falwell warned parents that Tinky Winky could be a covert homosexual symbol, because "he is purple, the gay pride color, and his antenna is shaped like a triangle: the gay pride symbol."[1]
